Diabetes, Hypertension & Cholesterol Care

Diabetes, hypertension and dyslipidemia management in Houston, TX. Lab work and follow-up in Spanish, with affordable pricing.

Diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol rarely hurt, which makes them easy to put off. The damage builds quietly in the heart, kidneys, eyes and nerves. At Clínica Hispana Cruz 4 we provide ongoing follow-up in Spanish, with a lab inside the clinic and a clear price before every visit.

What we manage

  • Type 2 diabetes and prediabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol and triglycerides
  • Thyroid problems that affect weight and energy

The first visit

We review your history, the medications you take and how you eat, work and sleep. We measure blood pressure, weight and waist, and order the labs you need: glucose, hemoglobin A1C, a cholesterol panel and kidney function. Samples are drawn on the spot and the lab returns fast results. With them we build a plan you understand and can stick to.

Goals we'll track

For many people with diabetes, an A1C below 7%. For blood pressure, usually under 130/80. The doctor adjusts these targets for your age and overall health and explains what each number on your results means.

Follow-up

Until your numbers reach the goal, checkups are every one to three months; once they're stable, visits are spaced out. At each visit we adjust the dose or medication when needed, instead of waiting for a complication. If you've taken metformin for years, we also check your vitamin B12.

What you do at home

Take your medications every day, even when you feel fine. Keep a log of your blood pressure or sugar if you have a monitor. Swap soda and juice for water, and walk half an hour a day. Small changes you keep up beat a strict diet that lasts two weeks.

When not to wait for your visit

Chest pain, trouble speaking, weakness on one side of the body or very high blood sugar with vomiting or confusion are emergencies: call 911.

Until your numbers reach the goal, every one to three months. Once diabetes, blood pressure or cholesterol are stable, visits are spaced to every three to six months.

Don't stop on your own. Feeling well usually means the medication is working. If you'd like to cut back, bring it up at your visit and we'll adjust it based on your results.

For fasting glucose and sometimes triglycerides, yes: 8 to 12 hours, water only. A1C doesn't require fasting. We tell you what applies when we order the tests.
