Flu & COVID Testing and Respiratory Illness Care

Flu and COVID testing and respiratory illness treatment in Houston, TX. Walk-ins welcome, in Spanish.

Fever, cough, body aches and a scratchy throat: at first, flu, COVID and a bad cold look a lot alike. Knowing which one you have changes the treatment, especially in the first days. At Clínica Hispana Cruz 4 we run rapid tests during the visit and you get a diagnosis the same day, no appointment needed.

What we treat

  • Flu and COVID-19, with rapid testing
  • Colds that don't improve after a week
  • Bronchitis and lingering cough
  • Sinusitis with facial pain and thick congestion
  • Mild asthma flares or allergies that affect breathing

Why not wait

Antiviral flu medicine does the most good if it's started in the first two days after symptoms begin. Seniors, expectant mothers, small children and anyone with a chronic lung, heart or blood-sugar condition stand to gain the most, since complications hit them harder.

How the test works

A swab takes a sample from the nose; it's uncomfortable for a few seconds. The result is ready during the visit and guides the doctor's treatment. If the test is negative but symptoms are clear, the doctor may treat anyway or repeat it in a day or two.

Antibiotics only when they help

Most respiratory infections are caused by viruses, and antibiotics have no effect on them. They're prescribed when there are signs of a bacterial infection, such as sinusitis that worsens after improving, or pneumonia.

At home

Rest, plenty of fluids and fever medicine. Stay home until a full day passes with no fever and no fever-reducing medicine. Cough into your elbow and keep soap and water close.

When it's urgent

Trouble breathing, bluish lips, chest pain, confusion or a fever that won't come down in a baby need immediate care at the ER or a 911 call.
