Men's Health Exams: PSA & Prostate Checkup

Men's health exams in Houston, TX: PSA, prostate checkup and lab work. Care in Spanish, walk-in and affordable.

Many men only see a doctor when something keeps them from working. The problem is that the conditions that affect them most, such as high blood pressure, diabetes or prostate changes, progress without warning. At Clínica Hispana Cruz 4 we do men's health and basic urology exams in Spanish, walk-in, with a clear price before we start.

Prostate and PSA

PSA, short for prostate-specific antigen, is measured in a routine blood draw. A high value doesn't mean cancer: it also rises with normal prostate growth as men age or with an infection. According to the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, between ages 55 and 69 the decision to get a PSA test is made by talking with the doctor about benefits and risks; with a family history, that conversation starts earlier.

Urinary symptoms worth checking

  • Waking up more than once a night needing the bathroom
  • A weak or stop-and-start stream
  • Feeling that the bladder doesn't empty
  • Burning or blood in the urine

Energy, mood and hormones

Constant fatigue, low sex drive or a growing belly have several possible causes: sleep, blood sugar, thyroid or low testosterone. When symptoms warrant it, the doctor orders the right hormone tests, which are drawn early in the morning.

What every checkup should include

Blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol and weight. These numbers best predict a heart attack or complications in coming years, and they're checked at the same visit in our lab.

Frequently Asked Questions

The conversation usually starts at 55, or earlier if your father or a brother had prostate cancer. The doctor helps you decide whether it's right for you.

No. It also rises when the prostate grows with age or there's an infection. It's read alongside your symptoms and, if needed, repeated or followed by other tests.

Because some male hormone levels are highest in the morning. Drawing the sample early gives a more accurate result.
