Wound Suturing

Wound suturing in Houston, TX. Closing cuts and wounds in Spanish, with affordable pricing.

A cut from a kitchen knife, a work tool or a fall on the street: when the edges of a wound gape apart, closing it with stitches helps it heal faster, with less risk of infection and a less noticeable scar. At Clínica Hispana Cruz 4 we treat these wounds without an appointment, explaining everything in Spanish.

When a wound needs stitches

  • The edges pull apart when you move the area
  • It's deeper than it looks, or you can see fat or muscle
  • It's longer than about half an inch, or it's on the face, hands or a joint
  • It keeps bleeding after ten minutes of firm pressure

On your way to the clinic

Press on the wound with a clean cloth without lifting it every few seconds to look. If you can, rinse it under tap water. Don't apply coffee, sugar, toothpaste or home remedies: they contaminate the wound and make it harder to close. The sooner you arrive the better, since wounds close more safely in the first hours.

How we do it

The doctor checks the depth and makes sure no tendons or nerves are hurt. The wound is cleaned thoroughly, local anesthetic is given and it's closed with stitches, or with skin glue or adhesive strips if it's small. At the end we ask about your tetanus shot: if your last booster was over five years ago and the wound was dirty, we give it right here.

When stitches come out

It depends on the area: on the face, after a few days; on the arms, chest and scalp, about a week; on the legs and feet, a bit longer. We give you the date before you leave, and removal is done at the clinic.

At home

For the first day or two, don't get it wet; after that, a gentle wash with soap and water is fine. Come back if redness spreads, or there's warmth, pus, a bad smell or fever.

When to go to the ER

Bleeding that won't stop with pressure, loss of movement or feeling in a finger, deep bites or wounds from heavily contaminated objects.
