Electrocardiogram (EKG)

Electrocardiogram EKG in Houston, TX, fast and painless. Results and care in Spanish, with affordable pricing.

An electrocardiogram, or EKG, records the heart's electrical activity. It shows whether the heart beats at a healthy pace, whether there are irregular beats and whether there are signs of strain or damage to the heart muscle. It's done at the clinic in a few minutes and doesn't hurt.

How it's done

You lie on the exam table and adhesive patches are placed on your chest, arms and legs. The patches connect to the machine, you stay still and breathe normally for a moment, and that's it. No electricity goes into your body: the device only listens.

What it's used for

  • Palpitations, a feeling that the heart skips beats or races for no reason
  • Dizziness or fainting
  • Monitoring high blood pressure and diabetes, which affect the heart over the years
  • Work or sports checkups, and evaluation before some procedures
  • Follow-up when starting a medication that can change heart rhythm

How to prepare

No fasting needed. On the day of the test, skip lotions or oils on your chest, since they keep the patches from sticking, and wear clothes that open easily in front. If you have a lot of chest hair, a little may need trimming where the patches go.

The result

The medical team reviews the tracing and explains in Spanish what it shows. If something calls for more testing, such as an echocardiogram or a stress test, we help you with a referral to a cardiologist.

When not to wait

Severe chest pain, or pain that spreads to the arm or jaw with shortness of breath or a cold sweat, is an emergency: call 911 instead of coming to the clinic.

Frequently Asked Questions

Recording the tracing takes under a minute; with setup, the whole test usually takes about ten minutes.

Not always. It shows rhythm and activity at that moment. If symptoms come and go, the doctor may order more tests even with a normal EKG.

No. Take your medications as usual and bring the list, since some affect the tracing and the doctor factors that in.
